NO BUYER’S PREMIUMS and CONTACT INFO

As a three generation auction company, we were taught many things. One major lesson was work hard for your commission and the rest should go to your client. While virtually all other auctioneers have instituted BUYER’S PREMIUMS into their billing schemes, Houser Auctioneers is one of the last to maintain a NO BUYER’S PREMIUM policy for our in-house buyer’s.

As a seller this is a major point because many of the “other auctioneers” will quote a lower commission to any perspective seller/consigner. What they often fail to mention is the BUYER’S PREMIUMS they pass on to the buyer. That premium in some case can be as high as 20% and more. What this means is if a buyer bids $100.00 for an item then when they pay for that item, they will actually pay $120.00 and sometimes more. Does the seller get that extra money…ABSOLUTELY NOT. That premium goes directly into the pocket of the auctioneer. In essence the seller is paying on both ends of the deal. Furthermore, over the years we have had many buyers tell us that they will stop their bidding early because they need to account for the extra “tax”. As auctioneers with over 85 years of experience, the last thing you want a buyer thinking about is where they want to stop to pay an extra fee. A good auctioneer wants to get buyers rolling. They want them to say I can still afford this because what you bid is what you pay resulting in the highest amount attainable for a given piece.
