Last week, Houser Auctioneers conducted a Farm Public Auction in Schnecksville PA. The auction was conducted in accordance with Governor Wolf’s directives which allowed any auction with greater than 40% farm equipment or farm related items to occur. The sale was a huge success. Houser Auctioneers followed all of the state protocols for the conduct of a sale. Those protocols went above and beyond what you see when going to the grocery store or large home stores. Protocols included medical questions at registration, encouragement to wear a mask, sanitation stations throughout the auction area, and the emphasis on being responsible patrons adhering to social distancing. Over the course of the sale, the processes Houser Auctioneers put in place were checked by TWO state police officers. After seeing our plan, how we enacted it, and the results, the Officers both commended us for our professional conduct and left without ANY negative comments.
It is with regret that many of our sales have been postponed. Houser Auctioneers does not take this decision with ease. Unfortunately, Governor Wolf of Pennsylvania has failed to release Lehigh County from the RED stay at home order. As such, Auctioneers are prohibited from running both live and internet auctions of antiques and general personal property. It was our hope an attempt by our republican state legislature to override the governors orders would pass but that failed last night (20 May) Mostly along party lines. It is truly a travesty this governor has changed his standards for re-opening no less than three times and continuously fails to justify the metrics he is now using to re-open counties.
I would encourage everyone to call Governor Wolf’s office and express your dissatisfaction. Houser Auctioneers has very rarely taken a public stance on political subjects however when PA citizens can go to the large chain stores and see more people than you would at an auction there is something wrong. PA citizens want to get back to work in a responsible way. Responsible Citizens and responsible business owners can do that without being controlled by the Governor.
